Takoyaki in the Undersea City is a Korean novel written by Chung Gyul kim.
A series of six short stories depicts a future dystopian world where all lands are submerged, portraying humanity surviving on or beneath the water.
Style Frame

Since this story hasn't been brought to life in visual form and I could potentially be the first visual creator of it, imagining how it would unfold as a visual medium made this project even more intriguing.
My main focus was to set the tone and mood that convey the dark, dystopian future where all land has vanished, and the hopeful struggle of mankind to survive and find happiness within it simultaneously.
The challenge was to seamlessly integrate the 3D elements created in Cinema4D with 2D graphics created with Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.
Sketch/storyboard

Even though the six stories and their characters are not necessarily interrelated, I aimed to connect and intertwine them in this title sequence to highlight their shared worldview and the quote: "We were running toward destruction and death, but still, I believed there would be more days filled with laughter."
About the Novel

The book starts with Jellyfish, which tells the story of a family and lovers struggling to protect their loved ones from a spreading epidemic in the glacier.
It continues with  Dance with the Sea and Paradise, illustrating the conflict between humans living on ships and the newly adapted underwater human race.
Then, mankind settles in an underwater city and seeks survival in the Underwater City Deliveryman and Takoyaki in the Undersea City.
Finally, the book ends with Coral Tree which depicts the period where the underwater human race endeavors to restore the Earth.
